Aquabound Manta Ray Kayak Paddle Review

Overall I was impressed with the balance and performance of the paddle. The midsized blade provides you with a paddle that you can use over longer durations with ease but is also capable of providing a powerful stroke when you require it. I was using a 220cm 1-peice version of the Manta Ray and it is also available in a range of sizes and in splits (2-peice).

My normal touring paddle has a larger surface area on the blade which possibly gives a little more explosive power but can sap your energy levels quicker over distance particularly if you are a recreational paddler. This is not the case with the Manta Ray, I felt like I could paddle all day with it without getting fatigued.

I liked the balance between power and efficiency that the Mata Ray has. Those paddlers looking for sprint performance will probably want to look at a larger more explosive blade shape e.g. Werner Corryvrecken

For those paddlers looking for a mid-sized touring blade that feels light and well balanced that will allow you to paddle for longer durations but still has enough power for when you need to change up a gear then I would highly recommend the Aquabound Manta Ray

The Glass paddle (yellow blades) retails in the region of £100-£110 and I think its exceptional value, and better than other paddles that I’ve used at this price point and dearer!
A good option for a recreational touring paddler looking to upgrade their first paddle to something lighter and more durable or the serious sea kayaker on a budget.

The Carbon Option (black blades) retails in the region of £150-£160 and features the same blade design , but with a Carbon reinforced nylon blade. This delivers similar performance to the glass option but is slightly lighter, stronger and with a slightly stiffer blade as a result of the carbon nylon.

Both of these specs bridge the gap from your recreational paddle and your top end carbon composite Sea Paddle. The two price points offer a quality paddle at good value for money.

a great paddle to use with either carbon or plastic blades
