Job title: Assistant Manager (Full Time)
Location: Kayaks & Paddles - Plymouth

Kayaks & Paddles has an exciting vacancy for an Assistant Manager here at our busy Plymouth retail and distribution outlet.
Kayaks & Paddles is the leading UK supplier of paddle-sports equipment and we are looking for a professional, enthusiastic member to join our team. The position will be an interesting combination of retail sales, commercial business and assisting the management with the day to day running of this thriving business. The role will also involve supporting our other UK paddle-sport branches that form part of the Canoe Shops Group through professional guidance and coordinating logistics.

The position requires an understanding and participation in paddle-sport.
The successful candidate will need to be physically fit as you will be handling bulky product and on occasions will be required to assist in our distribution warehouse with the loading and unloading of products.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting the management with the running of this busy and successful business.
  • Offering expert & honest sales advice to our customers
  • Serving customers face to face, by telephone and by email
  • Process receipts and dispatch procedures.
  • Supporting our commercial clients and seeking new business
  • Maintain product presentation in-store and online.

Job title: IT & Retail Assistant (Full Time)
Location: Kayaks & Paddles - Plymouth

The Canoe Shops Group has a vacancy for an IT and Retail Sales Assistant at our head office in Devon. You will be maintaining and improving our online portfolio of websites across all our stores. This includes daily website updates, writing content, SEO and developing new websites. To do this well you must be able to sell our products so the role includes working as a sales assistant for Kayaks & Paddles.

The position requires an understanding and participation in paddlesport.

You will have excellent computer skills and attention to detail which is essential for accurate online content. Experience using Dreamweaver and photo editing software would be advantageous. A useful degree would be an advantage but is not essential

The successful candidate will need to be physically fit as you will also assist in our distribution warehouse with the loading and unloading of products.

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining and improving multiple websites to ensure that the content is current and accurate.
  • Writing website content including product descriptions
  • Producing high quality website images
  • Serving customers face to face, by telephone and by email.

Job title: Warehouse & Logistics Manager
Location: Southampton Canoes

The Canoe Shops Group has a vacancy for a warehouse and logistics manager at our new distribution centre opening in Totton Hampshire November 2017. This is an unusual but rewarding position with several facets which make it more interesting. 
The position is both physical and administrative encompassing a vertical slice of paddlesport import, assembly, distribution and retail. The successful candidate will need to be physically fit, practical with the ability to use some hand tools, reasonably computer literate, honest and reliable with a clean driving license. Teamwork is extremely important to ensure the smooth running of a logistics chain handling odd shaped products. The Group will then have three main stock holding business nodes one in Cheshire, one in Devon and this new centre opening in Totton. 

Main responsibilities will include:

  • Implement group logistics programmes safely and efficiently
  • have a clear understanding of the company's policies and vision and how the warehouse contributes to the group
  • plan, coordinate and monitor the receipt, order, assembly and dispatch of goods
  • use space efficiently, making sure quality, safety and environmental objectives are met
  • coordinate the use of automated and computerised stock control systems where necessary
  • liaise with customers and colleagues by email and telephone
  • keep stock control systems up to date and make sure inventories are accurate
  • produce regular reports and statistics as directed
  • maintain standards of health and safety, hygiene and security in the work environment
  • oversee the planned maintenance of vehicles and equipment
  • assemble and trim Canadian canoes using hand tools
  • assist in some face to face sales functions at busy times
  • to have more than a passing interest in paddlesport

The Canoe Shops (Group) Limited is a family run business independent of all manufacturers or suppliers who’s staff are as motivated as the owners to be successful.

The warehouse position at the main centre is currently occupied by our semi retired MD. He is a time served engine fitter with good hand skills and a practical and logical brain. To quote him “boffins and scatter brains need not apply for this important position”.

Job title: Sales Assistant - Full / Part Time

Job Description:

  • To assist the Manager with the daily running of the business as requested. 
  • Professional and knowledgeable presentation and advice on the company's product range. Process sales in the manner instructed. 
  • Maintain the business management accounting systems.
  • Assist in product purchasing, stock control and stock sharing.
  • Manage and process receipt and dispatch procedures.
  • Assist in web site updates.
  • Maintain product presentation.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the workplace to a high standard.
  • Delivery or collection of product from suppliers or other branches.
  • To understudy the Manager to maintain consistency of purpose

About You:

  • You will understand and participate in paddlesport.
  • You must be numerate, literate and proficient with computer software programs including Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Common sense and self motivation are more important than paper qualifications.
  • A full UK driving licence will be advantageous
