A Mum's Review
We took the Feelfree Juntos down to a Cornish Cove (where some of “Poldark” was filmed) for a family day exploring and encouraging the children’s growing water confidence. They have previously only wanted to sit on my lap as we paddle around which makes it very hard to paddle properly. The Juntos has a separate padded seat at the front which meant they were happy to sit and face me as we paddled around the bay.
The sea in the cove was perfectly flat and crystal clear. The longer we were out, the more their confidence grew and they were soon lying on their tummies hanging over the bow to try and find Sammy the seal who was playing hide and seek with us.
The perfectly calm sea didn't last long, the following day the sea in the cove was choppier. The Juntos was still stable to paddle and it was easy to paddle through the little waves. The children still felt safe and were happy to sit on the front seat despite the waves and had fun jumping off the bow and climbing back onto the kayak.
As it was May bank holiday and the water was still a bit chilly we were all in wetsuits and wetsuit boots. My youngest wore Crewsaver Spiral Lifejacket which is ideal for younger children as it has crotch straps to prevent the jacket coming off and if they fall in ensures that they are floating on their back with their head out of the water. My oldest who is a much stronger swimmer had a Junior size buoyancy aid, again this is fitted with crotch straps to prevent the jacket moving too much when in the water.
The Feelfree Juntos is a very stable sit on top with plenty of room for both the paddler and child on the front. Smaller Sit On Tops such as the Nomad are ok with a child for short periods of time but I would much rather use the Juntos with the additional leg space and extra stability.
This is a short video demonstrating how good the Juntos is for family fun. The Juntos is fitted with a Deluxe Padded Feelfree Seat in the video.
A couple of other notable features worth mentioning are the large moulded carry handles, these are great for carrying but also perfect for securing a security cable through whilst the kayak is on the car roof rack. And there are 4 x flat recessed areas for fitting flush mounted fishing rod holders.
